Religion often becomes the basis of whether you are allowed to have romance with a certain individual or not. With the question can an established Christian and new Christian have a romance, well what basis should we use to answer this question? Religious definition of romance
You surely can’t find the word “romance” even if you browse the bible. There is none, but there is numerous mention of the word “love”. Let’s take a look at the Romance word definition in our usual dictionary, it is defined as a passionate emotional involvement or attachment between people; something which can be called as love affair. Since romance is connected with the word love, the two words are often interchanged. But what is the real definition of love? It has already been corrupted through the common use of it on the society.
Most individuals are often find it difficult to separate the word love from infatuation. The feeling we get when we are infatuated is somehow similar when we fall in love. But this usually ends within a short period of time, unless was changed into true love, can lead to broken relationships.
The bible has shown us 2 types of love: phileo and agape. Phileo is the feeling that we get which is based on how well other people treat us. It is also referred as “brotherly love”. This usually comes with great expectation and includes direct interaction. But it is also a command given by God. He has told us to love one another and this is what it is.
The agape, on the other hand, is considered unconditional. It is connection through spirit. To reach this level of love, one is required to have great relation our God. This is the type of love which represents God’s love for his children, his creation. So romance might not be found in bible verses, but it is found once someone has shown love for other person.
The Governing Power of Relationships
Our relationships are governed by either phileo or agape love. If we talk about romance, we usually utilize the phileo type of love. When we love, it is already our nature to pour out everything we have, the care, trust, and many more just to please that person and make him or her happy. In a man and woman love relationship, romance often serves as the proof of the love that exists. If the relationship progress into marriage, the love then become much deeper and stronger because of the intimate union of soul and the body.
Our God has created humans equally, originally without barriers. It is just us who made the barriers and standards of whom we need to love and whom we need not to entertain. Romance can’t often bloom out without love. And love is what it is all about. It’s only the society that gives standards and limitations to the act of love. If you really love the person, whatever her/his religious stand is, would you allow anyone to prevent you from expressing your feelings?
